When it comes to seasonal photography I am very much Spring, Summer, Autumn (starting at the end of August!) followed by Halloween and then full blown Christmas. I kind of forget about Winter and try to jump straight towards spring. I think it’s because January can be so uninspiring I try to reach for any inspiration I can and that normally comes from flowers and spring. However this year I am vowing to sit with Winter. I’m going to do winter photography! Cosy days in, cosy bakes and then I’ll move on to Valentines.
So I thought I would put together a list of ideas for photographs in January when you’re left feeling uninspired and wondering what to photograph. Here goes:
Snow Days – Of course, this one is dependent on the weather and on the East Coast here we rarely get it. Just if we do you just know I’m going to take full advantage!
Cosy Moments – Hot chocolates cuddled up together, blankets and textures. Piles of knitwear. Woolly hats and mittens. Cold frosty mornings. The condensation on the window.
Bake – Cakes, pies and all things comfort food.
Flatlays – Include books, pastries, cups of tea and coffee. Bring some winter foliage in!
Kids – Paintings, dens, cardboard box creations. Toys and dolls. Use the sheet trick!!
Crafts – Paper snowflakes (not just for Christmas) Winter crafts and activities. Create a pretty flat lay or show off the finished product.
Get outdoors – Capture the frost, wrap up warm. Go chase the sunset! Visit pretty places. Head to the beach!
And of course, flowers are always there to fall back on! Hahah.
